PSALM  25

Do you remember
The path you took
On your way home
In the evening
Through the woods
The campfire light
Fading behind you
O my God, in you I trust
It was a dark night
After a day that
Started out
So well
But turned bad before you
Could catch up with the
Quick strides of the hours
Make me to know your ways
You listened
To the crunch of
Twigs around you
And wondered at
The quiet backdrop
Of moonlit
Soundlessness
Lead me in your truth, and teach me
And wondered
What it would be like
To never know quiet
Like this
What it would be like
To miss the boom-quiet-boom
Of nearby shelling
Be mindful of your mercy, O LORD,
and of your steadfast love, for they have been
from of old.
The itch of the
Leaves roughing against
Your skin
The slipping away of the
day on your heart
The mixup of the news
And your imagination
Will keep you up
For hours
Even when your head hits the pillow
for you I wait all day long.
To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
But when waking up
At last
Comes
It will be another day
Of possibility
Of renewal
Of re-creation
Of re-treading
Paths
You will remember
In another way.
All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love
and faithfulness,
O LORD; teach me your paths
Amen.
