Encouragement and evangelism – March 21, 2012

LUKE 1:46-55
Every time I hear somebody’s testimony, it never seizes to amaze me of how GOd
knows our hearts that are in desperate need of His love and encouragement and how he
reaches out to us regardless of demographics, social or relationship status and anything
else that differentiates us from one another. An example of that is me: I was a little girl
of age nine trying to cope from being the only child for eight years to the “big sister”
figure when I first heard about the name of Jesus.
At first, I was delighted to receive a new member of our family, but later struggled
in my heart with this new change. In addition to my new baby sister, I had also changed
schools that year. The reserved and quiet character in me probably made it hard for my
folks to notice the hidden struggle that was happening deep down in my heart, but God
knew exactly what to do to cheer this little one up.
When you are a nine year old, being part of the Christmas play is a huge deal for
any kid, especially for the ones like me. My English teacher, who shared for the first
time the story of Jesus through the play that we did, asked me if I’d like to be Mary.
God knew exactly how to encourage and touch someone at my age. From then on, God
planted a curiosity in my heart for Him and gave a special bond with my teacher. I
never got to thank that teacher for her dedication and love for many kids including
myself; I hope to meet her someday. I heard she’s still a missionary teacher in
Mongolia and serving the Lord with her family.
As I look back to that season of my life, I’m astonished at how He orchestrated
every detail. Without that circumstance, my heart would not have been ready and who
knows where I’d be today. But thanks to His wonderful plan, God not only encouraged
my little heart years ago, but He’s still changing my life and the lives of my family. Of
course, it took time and many tears in prayer, but today, my whole family goes to
Church. My father is the latest one to join us in this wonderful journey with God and
we are so grateful for his new life.
Therefore, I pray and challenge that you’d be willing to be used by God to reach
the people that are “unnoticed” by society and encourage and love them by His grace.
Also remember that God uses ordinary people for ordinary tasks for the greater
purpose and for much greater future for those in need of His love and grace. Thank
you for taking the time to read a tiny part of what our wonderful Lord has done in
my life! God bless you all!
Prayer: God, help my ordinary self and my ordinary tasks do extraordinary things
in other people’s lives.
Amen.
