JOHN 1:38-40, 45-57
Here the gospel of John gave us the pictures of dialogues. The first one was
between Jesus and disciples to-be. When Jesus questioned to them and said, “What
do you seek?” the Disciples-to-be answered and said with CURIOSITY, “Where are you
staying?” And then Jesus replied, “Come and see.”
The other dialogue was between Philip and Nathanael. When he saw where Jesus was staying, he told his friends that he found the person they were looking for. In

his response, Nathanael with DOUBT asked “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” And Philip said, “Come and see.” Here in the first dialogue we learn that it was our God and our Lord Jesus who called us to “Come and see.” We would want to know that it was Jesus who had invited us when we sought God. I believe by the grace of God you and I have come and seen our Lord Jesus and are kept in the Presence through faith. Yes, we have had our encounter of “Come and see” in our faith journeys. It is this experience of “Come and see” that Philip and others shared with their friends, neighbors, and acquaintances, associates, and mates. It is through this experience that he had embraced the doubts in the minds of others. It is this experience that allowed us to say joyfully, “Come and see.”I believe it is when we have this personal encounter of “Come and see” like Philip and the others that we would be ready to go out and tell others, “Come and see.” In this season of Lent, let’s reaffirm our encounter by our initiation and open hearts to others as Jesus said, “Come and see.”
Prayer: God, help me hear your invitation to come and see. May I experience directly your inspiring love so that I am inspired to share that love with others.
Amen.
